Meet Your Host
¡Hola! I’m Jay — your wine-loving, island-exploring, happy-to-be-here guide to discovering the Mexican wines you didn’t know you needed.
When I first started staying on Isla Mujeres, I kept thinking:
There has to be something better than these dusty Cabernets and budget Malbecs.
And honestly? That thought launched a two-year mission I didn’t even know I was starting.
I tried everything — the good, the bad, the “eww, why did I open this,” and the occasional bottle that felt like striking gold. I tasted my way through what was available on the island, then Cancun (let’s be honest, Costco), then finally found regions producing some of the best wines in Mexico. It took time, money, patience, and a very open mind… but eventually I found the bottles that made me say, “Finally! This is worth sharing.”
One thing I realized along the way is that most visitors never get to experience the best of Mexico’s wine scene. Not because they don’t want to, but because it’s almost impossible to know where to begin.
You simply can’t buy every Mexican wine you see and hope it works out.
Well… you can. I tried, but I don’t recommend it.
That’s part of my goal with Wineapy.
I’m not a sommelier and I don’t pretend to be.
What I am is someone who genuinely loves wine, loves this island, and loves helping people discover something they would have never found on their own.
And the best part?
You get the benefit of everything I’ve learned without having to experiment your way through dozens of disappointing bottles.
I bring the good stuff straight to you! Wines that actually taste like the region you’re standing in, wines that surprise you, wines that feel like they belong to this moment in your life. My tastings are relaxed, personal, fun, and designed for anyone: wine newbies, seasoned drinkers, curious vacationers, or just people who want a memorable, meaningful experience on this beautiful island.
Wine has given me some unexpectedly joyful moments, even during really difficult chapters of my life, and I love sharing that feeling with others. There’s something special about slowing down, taking a sip, and realizing you feel… happy? Sometimes in a way you haven’t felt in a long time. That is what I hope to give you.
If you’re up for discovering hidden gems, sipping something delicious, and enjoying a wine experience that’s as easygoing as the island itself, I’d love to host you!
Cheers,
Jay
